Welcome to our committee

Chairman: Rod Mace

I am a committed diver of around fifteen years, a Dive leader and Open water instructor. I love diving, seeing the life on reefs and pinnacles and I’m not averse to a wreck or two.

SCUBA diving is a fantastic sport and the Stroud Valley Sub-Aqua Club is a great club for dive training, club dive trips and supporting trainees and divers throughout their underwater endeavours.

Diving Officer: Scott Ballentyne

I have been fortunate to experience a wide variety of both temperate and tropical waters over many years. I am a BSAC Advanced Diver and Assistant Instructor Supervisor as well as a PADI Divemaster and a retired Joint Service Sub Aqua Diving Supervisor.

I am interested in marine biology, nautical archaeology and underwater photography although I have yet to take the plunge with digital! I am keen to support the development of our divers and instructors of all grades and experience.

Treasurer/Membership Secretary: Steve Williamson

I started diving back in 1991 with East Cheshire SAC, subsequently joining the Argonauts in London in the late 1990s, before moving to the Cotswolds and joining SVSAC, so I fully appreciate the great benefits of a friendly, fun club environment.

I’m a Dive Leader and Open Water Instructor, and have spent many happy hours in the pool and local quarries helping trainees develop their skills.

I enjoy underwater photography, but my main passion is wreck diving – with trips to Scapa Flow and Truk Lagoon being my ultimate destinations.

Training/Welfare Officer: Bridgette King

I joined Stroud Valley Sub Aqua Club in 2011, progressing to Dive Leader and Assistant Instructor. I have served on the Committee for several years in a variety of positions. As Training Officer, I liaise with anyone wanting to do a try dive, arranging training at all levels from Discovery/Ocean Diver upwards, coordinating instructors, arranging skills development courses for all members and keeping up to date with BSAC guidance and news.

Our team of volunteer instructors give their valuable time and provided many opportunities for me to initially train and then to further my experience of scuba in the UK and other countries. It feels good to repay this time and share the wonders of the underwater world with others. My only regret is that I did not start earlier, there is so much still to explore and experience!
